The Holme Valley Mountain Rescue Team - focus and aims

The Holme Valley Mountain Rescue Team's aims are to relieve suffering and distress amongst persons affected by accident and/or natural hazard. Specifically we:
• Provide search, rescue and first aid facilities, equipment and manpower within our operating area in times of need or natural disaster.
• Provide, encourage and promote safe and proper training in moorland and mountain walking, rock climbing as well as other outdoor activities.
• Provide an association between persons interested in mountain rescue often by providing training to young persons in the skills of mountain rescue.
Therefore, the Holme Valley Mountain Rescue Team can, and indeed is, called upon to deal with a wide range of incidents via West Yorkshire Police in the rural and semi rural areas in West Yorkshire assisting people from all walks of life, not just the injured people participating in outdoor activities. The operating area of the Holme Valley Team is mapped below.

The Holme Valley Mountain Rescue Team is a voluntary organisation - it gets no statutory funding or grants from anywhere and all its Members are volunteers giving up their time to deal with incidents as well as the behind the scenes work to keep the Team operational.

The Holme Valley Mountain Rescue Team's operating area

The Holme Valley Mountain Rescue Team is to be found located in Marsden, about 6 miles to the west of Huddersfield on the edge of the southern pennine moors.

The operating area of the Team can be summarised as the south half of West Yorkshire - as shown on the map below. However, because of the way Mountain Rescue works, we can, and often are called upon to assist other Team outside of this area.

Quite often we find that many local people are surprised that there is a Mountain Rescue Team located in the Huddersfield area, then they think of the open moorland to the west and south of the Holme Valley area and realise there is a need for us.

However, those that know the area will know that even though the bulk of our area is classed as urban, there are many areas of open countryside within this.
